Our board of directors were recently asked the question...
Why do you serve on the M. E. Cox Center Board?
Judy Laster, President of the Board
With a long career in nursing, long-term care and home health services, it was only natural for me to say yes when asked to become a M.E. Cox board member.
I was very aware of The Center's services and had attended a few Center open houses over the years. In my career I had counseled many families who had nowhere to turn for respite from caregiving, either because of financial difficulty or guilt about putting the family member in a long-term care facility. M.E. Cox solves both Issues, by providing daytime respite that is also cost effective.
It is a privilege to lighten the lives of local families with a quality adult day program that is a win-win situation for caregiver and receiver.

Elaine Davidson
I discovered the Cox Center when looking for a facility to care for my mother-in-law. I was impressed with the superior quality of care available there. The staff is loving, caring, compassionate, competent. The Executive Director, Sharon Goumas, is knowledgeable, current in all areas, committed.
I wanted to be a part of that - work to help keep the Center serving the senior population and their caregivers. I believe in the mission of the Center.

Madeline Dunstan, MS, CSA
Associate Director of Education at the Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology at Eastern Virginia Medical School
Madeline Dunstan, MS, CSA, is a resident of Virginia Beach and is the Associate Director of Education at the Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. She served as the executive director of the M. E. Cox Center from 1976-1980 and has been a board member since 1996. Ms. Dunstan holds a Masters in Gerontology from the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and is a Certified Senior Advisor.
Working as the executive director stirred me to dedicate my career to serving older adults and improving their quality of life. Mary Ellen Cox, my first mentor, showed me the value of networking and lobbying for a social cause. Serving as a volunteer board member is akin to returning the favor to the program that gave me my first real job.
I have undergone much personal and professional growth through my affiliation with the M. E. Cox Center and it has been an experience that I will always treasure.
